2021 Week 11 Term 4
Graduation
Year Six spent a wonderful evening last night celebrating their journey through St Joseph’s Primary School.
The students and staff were joined by families at the end of the evening to acknowledge the wonderful journey and even more wonderful character of the Year 6 students that now move on to high school.
The Graduation also paid tribute to those families leaving St Joseph’s, to the wonderful teaching and support team and to all families who continued to provide love and care without condition, especially in this year of particular challenge.
In recognising this investment, I congratulated and thanked families for their continued outstanding support and dedication to their children and to the school.
THANK YOU AND HAVE A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR
I would like to pass on the leadership teams’ warmest regards and best wishes to all families and staff for a most enjoyable Christmas and New Year.
Through the challenge of 2021, our community and the wider community has learnt some very valuable lessons and we look forward to embracing this learning with the wonderful good character of people into the future.
Holiday Blessings
Wishing all of our St Joseph’s community a safe and blessed holiday period. May the peace and love of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you as you celebrate, reflect and rest with your families.
Peace be with you.

Maths Assessment Interviews
Online Bookings for 2022 (Year 1 to 6) Maths Assessment Interviews (MAI) as part of a Diocesan initiative, starting days for students at the commencement of the 2022 academic year for St Joseph's Primary School will be staggered for Year 1 to Year 6 to allow staff to conduct individual assessment interviews for all children in Mathematics.
These assessments allow our teachers to gain a comprehensive insight into your child’s capabilities and learning needs in the Number Strand of Mathematics before full time classes begin. We also track your child’s progress from year to year as we have been undertaking this assessment annually now for five years. We are committed to giving your child the best possible start to their school year.
Year 1 to Year 6 will commence classes on Friday 4 February 2022, while our Kindergarten cohort will commence classes on Monday 7 February 2022. All primary schools in the Diocese are incorporating MAI. For the past six years we have not followed the Lismore Diocesan staggered starts and had children come back to school earlier. It has come to a point in time where we follow the staggered starts similar to that of the Port Macquarie Catholic Schools.
The MAI’s will take the form of a one-on-one interview with your child and a teacher. We require parents and carers to book their 2022 Year 1 to 6 children’s interview online using Operoo. These are student only appointments and parents are not required to attend. Parents are welcome to wait in designated COVID-19 safe areas of the school, or return to school to collect their child. Please arrive at the school Office, ten minutes before the appointment time, where you will be directed to the location of your child’s interview. You will exit via the school Office when the interview is completed. The teacher conducting your child’s assessment may not necessarily be your child’s class teacher for 2022. Please note this is not a full school day, students attending interviews are not required to wear their school uniform, and students are only required to attend school for the duration of their assessment.

The Premier's Reading Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. Our students from Kindergarten to Year 4 participated in the challenge. Five out of seven students who completed the challenge in Stage 2 received a gold award.
