Jubilee 2025
What is the Jubilee of 2025?
During 2025, the Catholic Church will celebrate a special event known as the Jubilee Year, an ancient tradition rooted in Scripture and history which invites people to renewal, forgiveness, and deepened faith. Pope Francis has announced the Jubilee of 2025 with the theme:
"Pilgrims of Hope."
What is a Jubilee Year?
A Jubilee Year is a time of spiritual renewal that takes place approximately every 25 years. It traces its origins to the Old Testament, where the Israelites celebrated a “Jubilee” every 50 years—a time of rest, forgiveness, and restoration. In the Church, Jubilee Years are moments of grace, where special prayers, pilgrimages, and acts of charity help people grow closer to God and each other.
What is special about the 2025 Jubilee?
Pope Francis has called the world to embrace the Jubilee of Hope, encouraging Catholics to seek peace, reconciliation, and a renewed relationship with God. The Jubilee will include:
Pilgrimages—especially to Rome, where the Holy Doors of major Basilicas were opened
Opportunities for Reconciliation—special focus on the Sacrament of Confession
Acts of Mercy—serving those in need as a sign of Christian love
Prayer and Celebration—special Liturgies and prayers for families and communities
How Will Our School Participate?
As a school community, we will take this opportunity to reflect on the meaning of hope, forgiveness, and renewal in our lives.
Families will be invited to participate by:
Exploring the theme of hope at home through prayer and Scripture
Attending special school and Parish celebrations
Engaging in acts of kindness and service for others
Undertaking a local ‘pilgrimage’ to a sacred space
The Jubilee of 2025 is an invitation to journey together in faith, hope, and love. We look forward to sharing this special year with our school families!
Jubilee Prayer
Father in heaven,
may the faith you have given us
in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother,
and the flame of charity enkindled
in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
reawaken in us the blessed hope
for the coming of your Kingdom.
May your grace transform us
into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel.
May those seeds transform from within both humanity and the whole cosmos
in the sure expectation
of a new heaven and a new earth,
when, with the powers of Evil vanquished,
your glory will shine eternally.
May the grace of the Jubilee
reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope,
a yearning for the treasures of heaven.
May that same grace spread
the joy and peace of our Redeemer
throughout the earth.
To you our God, eternally blessed,
be glory and praise for ever.
Amen.
